
Joining forces land-grant institutions and rural development partners, the Southern Rural Development Center seeks to strengthen the capacity of the region’s 29 land-grant institutions to address critical contemporary rural development issues impacting the wellbeing of people and communities.
The Center’s three priority areas - Fostering Civic- Minded Communities, Building Economically Vibrant Communities, Expanding Opportunities for Distressed and Low-Wealth Communities - provide people of the rural South want innovative ways to get involved in their communities, to share their insights and to make a difference. Focusing on the unique needs of the people and communities in these pockets, the SRDC continues to concentrate in the following areas:
- Public deliberation
- Leadership-friendly communities
- The New Hispanic South
- Entrepreneurship
- Business retention and expansion
- The National e-Commerce Extension Initiative
- Food assistance/nutrition challenges
- Decision-making tools for the Mid South Delta Region
- Long-term rebuilding after disasters
